GOT CONSUMABLES?

0

They keep your operation running smoothly, but being here, there and everywhere throughout your lab, consumables can fade from focus . . . that is until you run out of them.

You can’t produce lenses without them. They keep your equipment operating, ensure quality lenses and maintain your machinery. And while they’re not as exciting as a new generating line or an AR coater, they do require your attention to make sure they do their job efficiently, effectively and economically. Here’s a rundown of what’s happening in the world of consumables from a number of suppliers:

SPECIFICALLY FORMULATED COOLANTS FROM SALEM VISION ARE 100% SYNTHETIC

STM630, a 100% synthetic grinding fluid, is formulated specifically for conventional plastic lens processing applications such as drilling, edging and generating. The unique formulation produces a low sheer interface between the lens and the tool to optimize removal rates and surface finishes. STM630 effectively captures the plastic particulate and relieves surface tension to facilitate quick yet soft settling.

STM640, also a 100% synthetic grinding fluid, is formulated specifically for high-speed digital plastic lens processing applications such as drilling, grooving and routing. The unique formulation, like STM630, produces a low sheer interface between the lens and the tool to optimize removal rates while ensuring high-quality surface finishes.

DAC VISION CONTINUES TO FOCUS ON DEVELOPING DIGITAL SURFACING PRODUCTS

FormaFlex S and DigitALL are DAC Vision’s new generation of digital polishing materials. The white first-step polish material in FormaFlex S produces a clear surface finish, while the black polishing material yields durability while reducing torn or damaged tool surfaces caused by sharp-edged lenses.

DigitALL is a precision engineered polish formula for removal and finish on all lens materials. It was designed for use on all digital and traditional polishing platforms. DigitALL provides clarity, less haze and surfaces for improved anti-reflective coating results.

PSI OFFERS NEW AR CONSUMABLES FROM DON COMPANY
Made with 99.9% pure anti-reflective coating materials, DON COMPANY’s new AR consumables are manufactured to exacting specifications for granular sizing to maintain a consistent hardness and stability on the lens.

The line includes hydrophobic coatings that offer water and oil repellence for smudge-free and easy-to-clean lenses. Practical Systems, Inc., (PSI) the exclusive distributor for DON COMPANY’s AR consumables in North and South America, is able to provide custom granular and pill sizing to meet specific needs. DON AR products are compatible with all vacuum coaters and, in addition to AR coating materials, PSI offers high-quality ion and electron beam gun filaments and monitoring crystals for process control.

Before PSI became a distributor, U.S. labs purchasing directly from DON had to order large quantities far in advance from South Korea with no technical support. With PSI’s Florida warehouse and an AR Specialist on staff, DON products can now be bought in the quantities needed at an affordable price with quick turnaround times and on-site technical support.

SATISLOH’S POLISH AND COOLANT ENGINEERED FOR DIGITAL POLISHING
Satisloh develops and supplies consumables built specifically for its own processes, and its new Digi-Pro polish continues this tradition. Specifically engineered for Satisloh’s Multi-FLEX and Duo-FLEX digital polishers using a unique particle shape and hardness, this new polish design offers increased stock removal and product life. Digi-Pro can be used on all organic lens materials and in any available digital polishing system.

Key to lens surface quality is Digi-Pro’s viscosity, which offers consistent flow rates, while its suspension provides consistent results and makes it easy to clean. Its frost-resistant chemistry prevents product damage that saves money.

Satisloh’s new LH-405 Plus coolant is made specifically for use with high speed digital generators. Its chemistry features a unique patent-pending lubricity that minimizes surface friction on lens materials for both cleaner and more consistent milling and turning.

The advanced technologies in the chemistry of LH-405 keep its coolant systems operating at full productivity and unhindered by biological issues that can reduce productivity and cause ongoing issues if not addressed.
LH-405 Plus coolant is bacteria-resistant and can keep users’ equipment growth-free and operating at the proper coolant flow rate.

SCHNEIDER EMPHASIZES RELIABILITY OF TOOLS AND CONSUMABLES
Schneider offers all of the required tools and consumables for lens production, ranging from blocking, generating, polishing, cleaning, coating and edging.

For alloy-free blocking, Schneider’s hazardous-free, environmentally friendly blocking material, the patent pending Eco Fuse Technology glue combines optimal mechanical stability, adhesion, temperature behavior and deblocking capabilities. Even high prisms can be processed.
For generating, Schneider’s cutting tools are characterized by low waviness values, and milling tools meet the best runout and balancing values, according to the company.

Schneider’s polishing pads are one component of the Advanced Polishing System, which also includes Alumox II polishing fluid and the latest development, the S+ tool series. The newly developed abrasive polish pad material together with the latest generation polishing macro technology enhances tool life by more than 50%, according to the company.

For coating, Schneider offers cleaning detergents for all kinds of ultrasonic cleaners, tintable and non-tintable dip/hardcoating solutions with different grades of hardness including primers for low and high-index lenses and lacquers for index matching, evaporation materials for film coating using the Electron Beam Coater Series EBC, hydrophobic/oleophobic coatings and various processes and materials for fashion coatings or Rx sunlens applications.

For on-block or block-free edging, Schneider offers blockpieces, adhesive strips, shaping tools for V-beveling, flat beveling, shelf beveling and T-grooving, and tools for rough cutting, drilling, grooving, polishing and safety beveling.

MEI’S MULTI-EDGE TOOLS LEAD TO GREATER PRODUCTION EFFICIENCY
In an effort to optimize efficiency, MEI always develops its machines and tools together. That’s what it’s done with a new pair of multi-edging tools. The tools allow the machine to switch between work processes quickly, saving production time. The multi-edging tool shown can perform roughing, two types of edging and drill holes.
It is MEI’s policy to not sell tools as spare parts for other equipment manufacturer’s machines, and it recommends not using replacement tools (milling tools in particular) from other companies in its machines.
